Course Description:
Leading ice is serious business, with litle margin for error. This course will assist experienced ice climbers, who are already competent leaders on rock, in making the transition to leading ice.

The course deals almost entirely with making the complex judgment decisions required to lead ice. You will learn about the many factors governing frequency and location of protection, how to avoid applying rock climbing logic to ice climbing situations, and how to assess the inherently higher risks of leading ice.

Because all instruction takes place with the student actually leading we must be completely comfortable with your technical and judgment skills before you enroll in this course. Successful completion of our Leading Skills Evaluation and considerable leading experience on rock, and following on ice, are required.
